# Extract or align lyrics

## Path

**songId** `string` *required*

Owned, editable song with audio.

## JSON body

**vocalLanguage** `string`

Vocal language code.

**lyrics** `string`

Words to align.

**mode** `string`

`extract` or `align`. Defaults to align when lyrics are supplied, otherwise extract.

## Response

**lyrics** `string`

Recovered or supplied words.

**vocalLanguage** `string`

Resolved language.

**alignment** `object or null`

Timed lyric alignment.

**status** `string`

`cached` or `none`.

## Source

Uses the vocal stem when available, then the master or song audio.

## Alignment structure

| Field | Type | Use |

| `source` | string | `scribe_v2` or `forced_alignment`. |
| `updatedAt` | string | Alignment update timestamp. |
| `words` | object\[] | Each word has `text`, numeric `start`, `end` in seconds, optional `loss`. |
| `lines` | object\[] | Each line has `index`, `text`, optional `isTag`, nullable `start`, `end` and its `words` array. |
